TREASURE STONES

1 C. used coffee grounds
1/4 C. sand
1/2 C. salt
1 C. flour or more
1 C. water

Mix all dry ingredients. Slowly add water and knead until dough-like. Shape into balls. Make a hole in the ball big enough to hide treasures in it.. Put a "treasure" into the hole, then seal the hole with some extra dough. Air dry for 2-3 days or bake in the oven on a cookie sheet at 150ºF for about 15-20 minutes.

Break the rock open to find the treasure.

Ideas:

***Add 1 T. of powder tempera paint to tint your Treasure Stones different colors.

***Use Treasure Stones for party favors or scavenger hunts at your next party.

TREASURE STONES II

1 1/2 C. flour
1 C. used coffee grounds
1/2 C. salt
1/4 C. sand
1 C. water
Food color paste, if desired
Glitter (optional)

Mix all ingredients together, and mix until the consistency of bread dough.

Drop a large spoonful of the dough onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet.

Make a hole in the center and put in a treasure (dimes, quarters wrapped in plastic wrap, but anything can be hidden in them).

Cover hole with a bit more dough to completely hide the treasure. You can sprinkle glitter on them at this point, if desired.

Air dry 2 to 3 days until rock hard. They dry faster if you put them by a heat vent or other warm spot. They shrink somewhat as they dry, so make them large enough to allow for the shrinkage. Makes about 8 rocks.
